  1. Walker Tower – Picture this – it’s 1929 and the New York Times just printed architect, Ralph Thomas Walker was the “Architect of the Century” on the completion of Walker Tower. This 24-story, art deco building towers at 212 West 18th Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues in Chelsea, and was converted to 50 luxury residential units. Walker Tower’s elaborate brick façade has been painstakingly restored and the art deco ornamentation proudly replaced. JDS Real Estate Development Group and Property Markets Group were responsible for the iconic restoration of Walker Tower in 2012.
  2. 56 Leonard Street – Known as the “Jenga” building, 56 Leonard Street in Tribeca, is a 60-story expression of sculpted surfaces and sparkling glass designed by Swiss firm Herzog & De Meuron. The Most Expensive Townhouse Sold in NY is not a Midtown Luxury Apartment In April 2017, the most expensive townhouse ever sold in New York City was a 3-story, Depression-era, 25,000 square foot limestone-clad mansion at 19 East 64th Street. For nearly a century, the building housed the Wildenstein Family art collection. The Beaux Arts-style building sold for a record $79.5 million, making it the most ever paid for a New York City townhouse.

In Bel Air, California, the most expensive house in the nation is on the market for $250 million. Bruce Makowsky is an ultra-wealthy American real estate developer and entrepreneur. Makowsky set the record for the most expensive home listed in the United States earlier this year. Mr. Makowsky’s 38,000 square foot high-tech palace includes an 85 foot long, glassed, tiled infinity pool that overlooks Los Angeles. At the edge of the pool is a 20 foot 4K resolution television with 16 underground speakers. A seven person staff is supplied for 2 years including a chef, a chauffeur and a masseuse.

The most expensive land purchase happened in Hong Kong just last month. The rare plot of land in Hong Kong’s bustling Central District came with a $3 billion price tag. You can get a 7-Day Express Bus Plus MetroCard for $59.50 to get you back and forth to work if you don’t want to drive your car.

Similarly priced is a Midtown Manhattan walk-up on West 48th Street. This is a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom townhouse that covers a complete floor of the building. The features of the unit include wood floors, lots for windows, and a walk-in closet. The rental price is $3650 per month. The downside is that there is no outdoor space to enjoy.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy the best of both world’s, you should check out the apartments at Greybarn in Long Island. Although they do not have a 3-bedroom option, the 2-bedroom units are spacious enough. The complex currently has 1 building complete, and are working on another 5 buildings that will have 1- and 2-bedroom apartments for rent. A 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment ranges in size from 1100 square feet to 1375 square feet. The complex will be designed around a community friendly clubhouse and include outdoor firepits, 2 swimming pools, a game room with a pool table, a fitness center, a bocce court, and a dog park.

The Greybarn community is a little farther outside of Manhattan, over in Amityville, but for the amount of outdoor space combined with the spacious apartments and all of the community amenities, Greybarn certainly brings together the best of both world’s.
